Apply for a bike hangar in on your street!
The London Borough of Lewisham has successfully won £224k from the TfL Cycle Parking fund. As part of the bid we have prioritised the Phase 1 Healthy Neighbourhood cells (Lewisham & Lee Green and East Sydenham) and the Deptford Parks Liveable Neighbourhood area.
There are 64 bike hangars available between the 3 areas and you can apply for a space in one via an online form below
https://lewisham.gov.uk/myservices/roads-and-transport/cycling/cycle-storage-for-hire
LB Lewisham will be shortlisting streets in December and looking to install the bike hangars in Spring 2020.
Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points
Additionally, LB Lewisham are installing EV charging points in the borough in December 2019. If you are interested in applying for an EV charging point on your road please apply via the link below
LB Lewisham cannot guarantee that all requests will be approved due to popular demand and we will only be able to contact successful applicants. The scheme will be run on a demand basis
Over the last year and a half we have delivered engagement events on streets, in schools, at youth clubs and community meetings to hear your views on how to make the Deptford Parks Liveable Neighbourhood area ‘healthier’ for the people who live, work and travel through it. We have spoken to as many people as possible during this time, and heard from many more via this commonplace website.
It has been a fascinating journey and we want to thank everyone who has shared their views so far.
What happens next?
We have heard what you have had to say and we have developed proposals to reflect your feedback. We are now publicly consulting on these proposals.
Please follow this link to view these designs and comment. This is a public consultation and will run from November 4th until 3rd January 2020 so please share widely! Please note you will not be able to comment on the commonplace site, only on the LBL website provided.
After consultation
After this consultation closes, a consultation report will be produced, outlining what the London Borough of Lewisham will be pursuing.
This will lead to detailed designs being produced, with the aim to implement these designs towards the end of 2020.
On Tuesday 30th July Sustrans delivered the first engagement event at Woodpecker Youth Club, where we bought huge maps of the area, art supplies, and local artist Tom Berry to run a fun workshop with local young people. We wanted to hear from them on what they thought about the street environment along Woodpecker Road. We followed this up with a second workshop on Thursday 8th August, where, via a series of sunny led walks along the street, we encouraged young people to write on the installed board and think about solutions to some of the issues they had raised.
EditRemoveIn all of our community engagement projects, we often find that, when it comes to original ideas and creative problem solving, it’s hard to beat speaking to young people. For example, while talking about improved play provision for younger people along the street, Robbie (aged 10) said; ‘Why can’t we design play features for older people too – like my grandad?’ Great ideas like this were popping up throughout the event, making for a fun and exciting few hours along Woodpecker.
After this event, we spent the evening on the street inviting people to write their views on the installed board. It has been brilliant to see so many people contribute in a constructive and thoughtful way to this board, and through this exercise we have gathered a huge amount of information. We are now really looking forward to the next stage of this project, which will involve accumulating all information gathered so far and breaking it into themes (e.g. lighting, play features etc.) and then using these themes to shape our co-design sessions. The on-street map will be replaced with a new one, showing what people have said so far and asking about solutions to the issued raised.
This will be promoted with more events in the area – watch this space to find out when! In the meantime, you can continue to contribute to the Woodpecker map on Commonplace here .
Lewisham based artist, Tom Berry , will be making a series of artworks based around stories of Deptford and New Cross. In particular he is looking for stories based close to (or in) Milton Court Estate, Folkestone Gardens and Deptford Park. The artworks will be installed throughout the project area to form a public art trail.
Come down to Festa Sul Prato, 222 Trundleys Rd, next Tuesday 30th July from 7-9pm to participate in this exciting project. Your stories and memories can help shape art in the travelling landscape of your area.
If you cant make it but would like to share a memory, an interesting fact, or tell the story of how you came to live in this part of London, please share your story here: https://tomberryart.co.uk/deptfordparksarttrail

Complete our SurveysThere is still time to fill out our online surveys about proposed changes to the Deptford Parks area. Improvements to Woodpecker Walk, Scawen Road, and a new walking and cycling link on the former Grand Surrey Canal are among the proposals that could make a huge difference to your area, and make the neighbourhood a cleaner, greener and more enjoyable place to live.

The surveys will close at midnight on Sunday 9th December.
Today we have been on Scawen Road outside Sir Francis Drake Primary School trialing a Play Street with LB Lewisham, DeptfordFolk and Lewisham Cyclists.
Children from Sir Francis Drake spent the day reimagining the space outside their school, thinking about the different planting and play features they might like to see included in a scheme that will make their journey to school safer, by reducing traffic through the area and improving local air quality. We even created a #CleanAir sign with the children using reused plastic bags and bottles!
We also spoke to parents and residents about what they would like to see on Scawen Road to make it a safer and easier place to walk and cycle. You can have your say by completing our short online surveys;
